Steel workers, eating lunch, sitting up very high in the air… rings a bell doesn’t it? If you still haven’t figured it out, the image above is a tongue-in-cheek recreation of the iconic 1932 photo “lunch atop a skyscraper” by Charles C. 234m above the streets of Perth, construction workers on City Square Tower recreate the famous 1932 photo taken on the 69th floor of the GE Building in Manhattan. These lads are tethered with harnesses and wearing safety gear. Their predecessors in NYC (You can see the movie trailer at the bottom of this post.) The photo, "Lunch atop a Skyscraper," shows 11 construction workers calmly eating lunch, while sitting next to each other on a long steel girder, framed by the city far below them. It is Artist Fredy Wenzel gives the classic photo “Lunch atop a Skyscraper” a futuristic makeover, imagining a city that rises into the sky thanks to android construction workers. Even though they’re robots, we still worry that these workers could fall off That, and many other stories about the men in “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper,” are recounted in “Men at Lunch,” which screens tomorrow at DOC NYC.
